Born in San Angelo, Texas in November of 1966, Joe's early years were a typical West Texas childhood. In 1970, he and his brother moved with their parents to Denton, Texas. It was there Joe began to develop his first love: music. His mother was an accomplished pianist and violinist with an angelic singing voice. Following in her footsteps, he began to play the piano and to sing. From the church to the community theater, he soon developed a love for the stage. When asked to pick an instrument for the sixth grade band, he picked the one destined to shape his future. The sound of Jazz played on the saxophone had for some time been an influence on Joe's musical sensibility. Denton was a Mecca for jazz saxophonists, thanks to the North Texas State University (now known as University of North Texas). Shortly after dedicating himself to the study of the saxophone, he unexpectedly lost his mother. The brothers' father raised the two boys on his own for a couple of years and just before Joe entered high school, the boys' father re-married. His new wife had two sons of her own. The four boys had known each other for some time and quickly made the transition to brotherhood. All but the eldest attended a performing arts high school in Dallas. As a freshman Joe continued his theatrical pursuits, but by his sophomore year had switched to the music program and re-dedicated himself to the saxophone. From the age of 14, Joe began earning a reputation as an up and coming talent. Working nightclubs, festivals, and doing studio sessions seemed, to him, like a dream come true. After graduating high school in 1985, he went to work on luxury cruise liners as a musician. Two plus years at sea on 5 different ships, seeing numerous ports of call, was an exciting way to spend his waning teen years. A professional engagement took Joe to Columbus, Ohio in early 1989. The quality of musicianship he found in central Ohio, coupled with ample work and a reasonable cost of living, influenced his decision to call Columbus home. Since his initial move to Ohio, Joe Crump has traveled the world multiple times with various artists. For two years, he called Prague home and toured extensively in Europe with his own groups. In 2000, Joe and his long time love, Patty, had their first of two sons. Long tours no longer an option, Joe needed to supplement his income to help support his young family. Thanks to his friends and associates at Circa Music in Dublin, Ohio, he found success in the world of advertising as a voice over artist. This new career path influenced his decision to pursue a deeper involvement in the marketing/advertising industry. Now a graduate of Columbus State Community College, with a degree in Interactive Multi-Media (IMMT), Joe recently conceived this venture and has focused his acquired knowledge on the development of BFSW.
